Inca Trail
General Information
This popular trek is part of the 38 thousand miles of Inca rock paved roads found along the south american continent, this web of roads were called Qhapaqñan in the Inca times. They crossed the 3 geographical regions in the continent: Coast, Andes (mountains) and Rainforest, going through arid deserts, dramatic valleys and mountain formation, to the rainforest with dense vegetation.
The South East Valley is also very well known for its typical gastronomy.
- Patallaqta: beautiful and impressive Tambo located at the very beginning of the Inca Trail to Machupicchu. Also considered a check point, it consists in many terraces holding various buildings with important stonework. This Archaeological Site respects the natural shape of the mountain where it was built.
- Wiñayhuayna: beautiful Archaeological Site considered a Tambo, with many agricultural terraces and buildings located high in the steep mountain. This is the last camping area before heading to Machupicchu.
- Inti Puncu: Everyone’s goal, the Inti Puncu or Sun Gate is the first opportunity to finally see Machupicchu in front of you. It has a nice gate facing south east, where the sun lights up straight through this gate only during our Summer Solstice.
