Inca Trail – Salkantay

Salkantay is one the highest peaks in the Cusco Region, over 20000 feet above sea level, located south west from Machupicchu. This trek is a very interesting alternative option to get to Machupicchu.

Day 01:

Early in the morning we drive you to Mollepata, 4 hours away from Cusco, where you will have lunch and meet the people whom will be with you on the next days. Start hiking for 3 hours towards Silcakancha. Lunch stop, followed by 3 more hours of a hike to Soraypampa, first camp site.

Day 02:

nearby Salkantay peak, where we get by noon, the highest point during our hike, over 15400 feet above sea level, at an area named Umantay. Perfect spot to see the glaciars and mountains surrounding the Historic Sanctuary of Machupicchu. Lunch an hour later of a hike at the Huayrac Community. We then hike descending to the Cloud Forest area toward Colcapampa. Camp site.

Day 03:

After breakfast, we beggin the most unforgetable hiking day through athe Cloud Forest, watching birds and a huge variety of vegetation. We will see the formation of a famous Hot Spring. Once in Sahuayaco, lunch time, we will board a private van towards Sanat Teresa town. A lot of coffee, coca, banana, avocado plantations on the way, as well as a big variety of orchids. We camp at Lucmabamba.

Day 04:

Early this morning we hike towards Aguas Calientes, but first w ego through the old town of Santa Teresa, washed away by a rock slide back in 1998, we will have some adventurous experiences today. We will walk by the Hidroelectric of Machupicchu, lunch time. From here we will take the train to Aguas Calientes to spend the night at a Hotel.

Day 05:

We hike to Machupicchu and will tour it for the next 3 hours. Enjoy a well deserved lunch at the Sanctuary Lodge, then have some time at leisure to explore Machupicchu on your own before heading back to town to board the train to Cusco.
